Feedback from Clinical Audit 2020
The event
The Clinical Audit Support Centre’s 3rd national conference took place at the Athena Centre in Leicester on 16th September. Over 130 delegates from across the UK attended the conference, with the majority working in clinical audit and clinical governance. The day included an interactive exhibition and poster competition and attendees listened to presentations from national speakers and local clinical audit professionals. Delegates were also asked to complete a short questionnaire with regard to current views on clinical audit and the results of this survey will be made available online later in the Autumn.
The speakers
The conference was chaired once again by Lucy Warner (Chief Executive of the NHS Revalidation Support Team) and she highlighted the current importance of clinical audit, noting that it will be an integral part of forthcoming revalidation arrangements. The morning session focused on national updates from organisations such as HQIP and NICE, with the afternoon looking more closely at local implementation of audit work by Trust-based clinical audit teams. Overall, Professor Mike Pringle (pictured) rated as the top speaker for the day with a fantastic 97% positive rating and he was closely followed by the final speaker of the day, Olympic Gold medalist, Dr Tim Brabants who was positively endorsed by 94% of those who completed and returned their evaluation form.
The poster competition
One of the highlights of the event was undoubtedly the interactive poster competition – voted for by delegates and sponsored by SNAP surveys. A total of 26 posters were displayed and these were well received with 21 being awarded at least one 1st place vote! The winning poster looking at Falls Prevention was submitted by Leicestershire County and Rutland Community Health Services and gained a total of 62 points. 2nd place was awarded to Hampshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (53 points) with Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust placed 3rd on 52 points.
Further feedback
We will be providing further feedback in relation to the conference in due course and this will include a podcast from Lucy Warner. In addition, we plan to make the results of the audit questionnaire available in a comprehensive report. In terms of initial feedback, the main issue that appears to have been mentioned by delegates who completed this is their future concerns relating to likely public sector funding cuts. We will also be inviting authors of the top three posters to write a more detailed account of the work they have carried out in forthcoming issues of our online journal, Clinical Audit Today.
